Omaha Hi is also know as Omaha Hold’em were the same rules apply but the difference is that each player at the table is given 4 personal cards instead of 2 like in Texas Holdem. The winning hand will be the highest combination of two of the personal cards along with 3 of the 5 community cards.

There are several types of variations of Omaha the most common ones are: Omaha Hi which is the original game also known as just “Omaha”, there’s a version in which the low and high hands are both considered as the winning hand and it’s called Omaha Hi/Lo or Omaha eight or better.

There are a few differences between Texas Holdem and Omaha:

  • First each player is given 4 personal cards instead of 2
  • Second the winning hand can only be the combination of two out of the four personal cards along with only three of the five community cards

  • Omaha Strategy Tips

  • Know which are the top 3 hands that could win the pot at all times
  • Remember that in Omaha you must flop two pairs, three of a kind, flush or better, having only a high pair will get you into trouble as the hand develops
  • Raise before the flop if you are holding any of the best starting hands in Omaha
  • Fold if your flush draw in low
  • Pay close attention to the other poker players at the table, you could learn a lot from watching how people behave when playing certain hands
  • Don’t become predictable, it’s good to be caught bluffing, that will make you unpredictable at the table.
